Bed Made, Life Organised: The Power of Bedroom Organisation

Bed Made, Life Organised: The Power of Bedroom Organisation

Find out what most people don’t know: bedroom organisation greatly impacts your life.

Having a tidy home is crucial. Organizing and cleaning your house is much more important than you think. Many people clean and tidy their bedrooms, fearing their guests' thoughts.

However, these tasks shouldn't be done solely for the sake of visitors. House cleaning and organisation play an essential role. Even the bedroom, shown to guests infrequently, should always be impeccable. An organised bedroom has a positive impact, while a messy room has a negative influence.

Our bedroom is the space where we feel most comfortable being ourselves. It is a place of privacy, freedom, intimacy, cosiness, and comfort!  It's easier to fully enjoy the space when the environment is well-organized and chaotic. Consequently, you prefer to spend more time elsewhere. Therefore, organizing the bedroom is essential.

Why is house organisation so important?

The process of tidying up should be thorough so that the space can be more organized shortly after. When there's a lack of an effective method, it's frustrating to see that minutes or hours after tidying up, everything is back to the way it was. It's necessary to simplify the environment to maintain the order of the bedroom. When each item is placed properly, the harmony of the space is preserved.

Having a well-organized room is beneficial for mental health. There’s no chaos making our daily lives unbearable. It's easier to manage everything in the room and find what you want. Subsequently, when it's time to tidy up again, the task is easier, allowing you to tidy the room in just a few minutes.

In the book A Monk's Guide to a Clean House and Mind, we can learn how Buddhist monks view domestic cleaning as a spiritual improvement. Simple activities like tidying the bedroom help us find harmony and serenity. In the book, the monk Keisuke Matsumoto teaches: “Our day begins with cleaning: we sweep the temple interior, the garden, and then polish the main hall floor. Not because they are dirty, but to clear the shadows that darken our spirits.”

Tips for Keeping Your Bedroom Constantly Impeccable

1. Choose furniture that facilitates organisation and cleaning

Avoid lovely but complex furniture. Don’t opt for furniture that accumulates dust and complicates the cleaning and tidying process.

2. Strategic mess

Yes, this is not a mistake. It’s a process that doesn’t have to be done all the time but occasionally has value. Take everything out of certain spaces (drawer, nightstand, etc.) and gather everything in one place. Then, take a deep breath, observe the pile of objects, and put everything back in its place, well-organised (by size, colour, utility, etc.).

3. Understand the relevance of the Marie Kondo Method

This method involves letting go of what is unnecessary. This step can follow the previous one. Before organising everything and putting each thing in its place, you can dispose of some items just taking up space. One of the recommended criteria is to make an emotional selection. To decide what stays, value items that bring joy and comfort and generate a sense of happiness. For items that don’t evoke good feelings, thank them for all the moments and choose to let them go. The detachment process becomes more peaceful, letting you let go of that blouse that no longer fits or represents an important moment from a previous relationship.

4. Sell what you don’t want

After selecting what to discard, gather everything (books, clothes, shoes, decorative objects) and either throw it away, give it to someone you know, donate it, or try to sell it. If you manage to sell it, you can use the money for something that enhances the room.

5. Use wall hooks

This is a wise strategy. Hooks allow you to hang items often left on the floor, like a coat, a bag, or a backpack. Place the hook near the door, as it’s a convenient spot that doesn’t interfere with the room's passage.

6. Use storage boxes

These boxes are perfect for storing accessories that are not used frequently but are still needed. They have a decorative look and allow you to organize a lot inside. You can store items in these boxes that you might need at some point but don’t use daily.

7. Use bedside tables

This type of furniture is indispensable for those who want to keep their bedroom organized. It allows you to have a lamp for reading before bed and a place to leave your phone for the morning alarm. Besides being a decorative element that completes the room's look, you can store daily essentials.

8. Tidy up the cables

This is another strategy to be noticed. Nowadays, we are dependent on technology, TV, laptops, tablets, and phones. Cables connect these devices or must be charged regularly, leading to tripping over wires or leaving the room looking messy, making the bedroom visually unappealing. Therefore, do something about the cables. Organize them; hide them. Use cable organizers to minimize their visibility or hide them in dedicated boxes. Putting all the cables in a single box helps reduce visual clutter.
